Weekly Watch Focus: Honor Your Parents

FRIDAY, MAY 6, 2011. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, give specific thanks for your parents as well as your spiritual fathers and mothers that bless and teach you. For long life, blessing and a healthy society, the Word of God instructs us to honor our parents and elders. Even this year, let the mother release blessing on their children and grandchildren. Let us repent that as a culture and even as the Church we have focused on the altar of youth rather than honoring the elders. Let us specifically pray that this would be a season of healing broken relationships in every family as wholeness in family bonds is important to the heart of the mother.

Ex. 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.”

Eph 6:2, “’Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise.”

2 Tim. 1:5 “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.”

Part 2: Closure for 9/11

Let us remember the families who lost loved ones on 9/11. May the death this week of Osama Bin Laden, the man behind the mass-murder of thousands of innocents, bring some sense of closure to those who lost loved ones in those attacks. Let us lift up our armed forces, including the Navy SEALs, who stand guard around us so that we may live and sleep peacefully. May the Lord grant us victory over all terror networks, exposing them wherever they may hide.

Joel 3:16, “The Lord also will roar from Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; the heavens and earth will shake; but the Lord will be a shelter for His people, and the strength of the children of Israel.”

Deut. 20:4, "For the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you."
