Weekly Watch Focus: Chicago Violence & California Wildfires

Part 1: Pray for Chicago and Key Cities Ripped by Violence

Pray for peace and cessation of violence in Chicago. This past weekend, tragedy struck Chicago as a wave of violence swept the city. From Friday evening to Sunday, sixty-six people were shot, twelve of whom died. Pray for peace and cessation of violence in Chicago. Lift up the grieving families and those who were wounded. Spread a prayer blanket over Chicago and other key cities riven by gang warfare and drugs. Bind the spirits of violence, murder, and addiction that are preying on the hearts of our major cities. Pray that God will give Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel, city officials, and law enforcement wisdom in dealing with the escalating violence in their city.
Pray for your city. Release holy angels to protect every neighborhood, law enforcement, and especially innocent civilians and children. Ask the Lord to raise up leaders in our cities who are anointed with His wisdom and authority to bring peace and restore order. Pray that our nation would have spiritual awakening to bring revival and transformation that would restore our cities and heal our land.

Jeremiah 29:7, “And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”

2 Samuel 22:3-4, “The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.”

Jeremiah 31:16, 17, “’Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded,’ says the Lord, ‘and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope in your future,’ says the Lord, ‘that your children shall come back to their own border.’”

Colossians 2:15, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

Part 2: Pray the California Wildfires Cease

We continue to pray for California as firefighters battle the largest fire in the state’s history. Hot, dry, and windy conditions are fueling multiple fires across the state. Pray the Lord releases supernatural rain on the region. Pray for the thousands of men and women firefighters and rescue agencies as they stand on the front lines to bring the fires under control. Pray for strength, protection, and endurance. Pray for the Lord to give grace to stop the fires and a shift in weather to aid the firefighters. Pray for the thousands of evacuees. Continue to pray for the many who have lost their loved ones or their homes.

Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”

Job 37:5-12, “God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend. For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’; Likewise to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength. He seals the hand of every man, That all men may know His work. The beasts go into dens, And remain in their lairs. From the chamber of the south comes the whirlwind, And cold from the scattering winds of the north.  By the breath of God ice is given, And the broad waters are frozen.  Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds; He scatters His bright clouds.  And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance, That they may do whatever He commands them on the face of the whole earth.”
