"The is a Football" — Vince Lombardy, head coach of the Green Bay Packers and five-time Super Bowl winner.

Every training camp Lombardi led, regardless of the experience of the players, began with that statement. Coach Lombardi held to the basics, reminding the players what the entire enterprise was about and how it was successfully executed. That philosophy made Lombardi the biggest championship winner in American football.

So, we enter 2019 with our annual corporate fast. The basics.

The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message. We preach Christ, warning people not to add to the Message. We teach in a spirit of profound common sense so that we can bring each person to maturity. To be mature is to be basic. (Colossians 1:26-29 TM).

There are many ways to fast. You might revisit our book, The Hidden Power of Prayer and Fasting, for a refresher on the way to fast and its benefits (available here). Participate in the manner the Lord graces you. Every person joining the fast receives the full benefit of the whole. Basically, the Bible teaches that fasting is to:

  • Humble ourselves before the Lord.
  • Cleanse our mind and body of the “dirt” we gather as a result of living life.
  • Break soulish habits.
  • Loose deliverance from demonic strongholds.
  • Bring about relational reconciliation with God and others.
  • Release times of refreshing from God’s presence.
  • Receive breakthrough and answered prayer.

We have heard a word for the year: INCREASE. Psalm 115:14: “May the Lord give you increase more and more, you and your children.” This is our prayer as we set ourselves apart in preparation for all God has for us to walk in this year in our body, soul, spirit, relationships, enterprise, vision, guidance, and fulfillment of His desire.

I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions. For I was ashamed to request of the king an escort of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the road, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him, but His power and His wrath are against all those who forsake Him.” So we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer (Ezra 8:21-23).

You may add your name to our fast calendar and send your prayer requests to us here.

We are covering you and agreeing together for you and your family. Join us in the sanctuary and online Fridays at 7:30 p.m. for the Watch and Sundays at 10:00 am for our Sunday services.
