Weekly Watch Focus: Mother's Day—A Time to Honor
FRIDAY, May 10, 2019—The Bible instructs us all to honor our parents. In fact, it is the first commandment with a blessing:
Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.”
Ephesians 6:2, “‘Honor your father and mother,’ which is the first commandment with promise.”
This year, as we celebrate Mother’s Day, let us be thankful for our parents—specifically our mothers—and speak a blessing over them. Speak a blessing over all the mothers, both natural and spiritual, in your church and community. Take time this week to communicate with your mother how she has blessed your life.
We take note that society thrives when it embraces a culture of honor for elders and those in authority. Let us reject and repent of a culture that worships at the altar of youth, disdaining and disrespecting the wisdom and blessing of our elders. This same spirit of disrespect leads to disdain for the unborn. Let us as watchmen and intercessors release fresh blessings on all mothers. We also ask that mothers release fresh blessings on their children and grandchildren. May we also receive blessings in the church from all our spiritual mothers.
In the context of honor, may we also pray a special prayer of blessing and protection for First Lady Melania Trump and Second Lady, Karen Pence and their families.
Part 2: School Shooting in Colorado
Please pray for the grieving families who lost loved ones at the STEM School Highlands Ranch in Colorado. On Tuesday, May 7, two students opened fire at the school, murdering one student and injuring eight others. Pray for the families of the victims, and ask for the healing of those wounded in the shooting. Let us hedge our children with renewed prayer. Declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ whose glory and power annihilates every principality and power. Let us plead the blood of the Lamb over our families, schools, cities, and nation.
Pray the Holy Spirit, the great Comforter, to come with His love, healing, and comfort for every hurting person.
Part 3 – Pray for Israel
This past weekend, Palestinians launched a barrage of more than 600 rockets from the Gaza strip, killing four Israeli citizens and paralyzing the daily lives of thousands of Israeli citizens within the rocket’s range. Pray for God’s protection and covering for Israel. Pray for wisdom for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his administration. Bind the terrorist activities of Iran and the spirit of anti-Semitism behind these attacks. As the Bible promises in Psalm 122:6, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May they prosper who love you."
Malachi 4:5-6, “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse.”
2 Timothy 1:5 “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.”
Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Colossians 2:15, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”
2 Samuel 22:3-4, “The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.”
Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
