Weekly Watch Focus:  Honor our Fathers

Friday, June 16, 2017— Eph. 4:4-6, “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”

All fatherhood proceeds from our one true Heavenly Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Identity comes from fatherhood, starting with Father God. Jesus came to redeem us from sin and reveal our Heavenly Father (Matt. 11:27). The Apostles’ Creed begins with, “I believe in God, the Father Almighty.” It is by the Holy Spirit poured out at Pentecost that we cry out “Abba, Father.” Fathers of families are the center piece of blessed society.

As we observe Father’s Day this week, may we first honor and worship our Father God. Let us also honor our natural and spiritual fathers and mothers.  Let us pray for restoration of fathers and the Spirit of true Fatherhood under our Father God.

2 Cor. 1:3-4, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

As we pray for the restoration of fathers, pray for Rep. Steve Scalise, a father critically wounded by an attack by a gunman on Wednesday. Lift up Rep. Scalise and his family, praying for his healing and comfort. Let us pray for the four others who were wounded, Special Agents David Bailey and Crystal Griner, whose response averted greater loss, and former staffer Matt Mika, and aide Zach Barth. May the God of all comfort bring healing and restoration to each victim and their family.
