Weekly Watch Focus: Freedom from Opioid Addiction

Friday, Friday, June 23, 2017— “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it” (Col 2:15).

In January, Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin focused his entire State of the State Message on the opiate addiction crisis facing his state. Authorities across the nation have expressed deepest concern over the spread of addiction that is crippling our nation. This trend touches all demographics, and all corners of society, with the nation’s death rate from opioid overdoses now surpassing total deaths from homicides and car accidents combined.

Bind the spirit of addiction plaguing America. Opioid addiction is one of the main factors behind the recent decline in life-expectancy in the United States. This crisis is hurting families, leaving children orphaned or in foster care, and destroying communities. Let us specifically pray to break this stronghold and pray for healing. Pray for law enforcement and state agencies to have wisdom to set policies in place that will help eradicate this cycle and restore those bound to opiates.

Ps. 102:18-21, “This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord. For He looked down from His holy height; from heaven the Lord gazed upon the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to set free those who were doomed to death, that men may tell of the name of the Lord in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem.”

Is. 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and  freedom to prisoners.”

Eph. 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Jeremiah 31:16-17, “Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the Lord, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope in your future, says the Lord, that your children shall come back to their own border.”

Col 2:15, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”

We remember fellow believers who are oppressed and tortured for Christ’s sake. In communist China, Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and other parts of the word, violent radicals or oppressive communism continue to persecute and even murder Christians.
We thank God and pray for our law enforcement. We ask the Lord for their safety and guidance as the carry out their duties with integrity.
As our children return to school, we cover them in prayer. Whether they attend public school, private school, home school, or college, we pray a special anointing over them.
There is a declaration of war in our culture against the identity of our children. Our foundational values and the preservation of identity for individuals and families through Christ as the building block of society is under attack.
Pray for financial recovery from what many economists are calling a recession. We humbly pray for a healthy economy and that integrity would be restored in leadership.
