Weekly Watch Focus: Prison Reform

Remember the prisoners as if chained with them—those who are mistreated—since you yourselves are in the body also.” Hebrews 13:3

Friday, February 22, 2019—On December 22, 2018, President Trump signed the First Step Act, a prison reform bill that will drastically improve rehabilitation opportunities for those in the federal prison system. It also reduces mandatory minimum sentences for many drug-related crimes and bans the shackling of pregnant women. Thank the Lord for these reforms and pray for more to come. Lift up in prayer all those in federal, state, or local prisons. Pray each to be touched by the Holy Spirit. Many have been in the criminal justice system from their youth. We ask for revival to sweep across prisons in America. Pray for fresh strategies and wisdom from heaven to bring more reforms to our current system. May the Lord bring restoration, strength, and encouragement for all men and women crying out to the Lord. May all those released from prison come out equipped to lead a productive and blessed life.

Psalm 102:18-21, “This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord. For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; from heaven the Lord viewed the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death, to declare the name of the Lord in Zion, and His praise in Jerusalem.”

Matthew 25:34-36, “Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’”

Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.”

We remember fellow believers who are oppressed and tortured for Christ’s sake. In communist China, Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and other parts of the word, violent radicals or oppressive communism continue to persecute and even murder Christians.
We thank God and pray for our law enforcement. We ask the Lord for their safety and guidance as the carry out their duties with integrity.
As our children return to school, we cover them in prayer. Whether they attend public school, private school, home school, or college, we pray a special anointing over them.
There is a declaration of war in our culture against the identity of our children. Our foundational values and the preservation of identity for individuals and families through Christ as the building block of society is under attack.
Pray for financial recovery from what many economists are calling a recession. We humbly pray for a healthy economy and that integrity would be restored in leadership.
