Weekly Watch Focus: Righteousness and Justice

FRIDAY, May 15, 2020—The coronavirus pandemic has created an opportunity to expose institutionalized corruption inadequacies in governmental systems in every nation around the world. In history, God is able to use crises like this one to expose, challenge, and correct or crush unrighteousness and injustices that have long been hidden. In the US, petition God regarding the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia. Ask for righteousness and justice with peace and consolation for the family and communities traumatized in his death. In every nation it is the ordained commission of those who are led by the spirit of God, the church of Jesus Christ, to be salt and light.

PRAY
As we approach Pentecost, pray for your nation, your region, and your city. Pray for elected and appointed leaders and bureaucracies. Pray for righteous kings and judges. Pray that governmental counsels be filled with God-fearers and kingdom-purposed plans.

Lift up a shield of prayer and intercession over President Trump, Vice President Pence, their administration, and families. Pray for protection for them and their staff from the coronavirus. Continue to ask the Lord to give this administration His wisdom and counsel in leading our nation back to economic prosperity. Bind back the political spirit that is trying to tear our nation apart by taking advantage of crisis. Pray for our upcoming national elections. Bind fraud, fear, and falsehood from the electoral process. Give us leaders, such that it would be to Your glory to give us the victory through them.

 
Amos 5:24, “But let justice run down like water, And righteousness like a mighty stream.”

Psalm 89:11-18, “The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; The world and all its fullness, You have founded them. The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon rejoice in Your name. You have a mighty arm; Strong is Your hand, and high is Your right hand. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face. Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all day long, And in Your righteousness they are exalted. For You are the glory of their strength, And in Your favor our horn is exalted. For our shield belongs to the Lord, And our king to the Holy One of Israel.”

Proverbs 29:2,4,8-9, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. The king establishes the land by justice, But he who receives bribes overthrows it. Scoffers set a city aflame, But wise men turn away wrath. If a wise man contends with a foolish man, Whether the fool rages or laughs, there is no peace.
